Nathaniel R Hankins

I began writing as a child. Journaling provided a way to process. I later graduated to other forms of art such as music, painting, and drawing. Throughout the years, I have maintained the desire for expression. Writing felt like returning to the source. I traveled west to Colorado to study Creative Writing and Journalism at the University of Colorado at Boulder as a dual major. I am a graduate of the University of Colorado Boulder with a BA in Journalism (High Distinction) and a BA in Creative Writing (Summa Cum Laude). I’m currently an MFA candidate in Creative Writing at Florida State University, focusing on literary-genre horror fiction and the Southern Gothic, while teaching undergraduates college writing as composition and art. Currently, I am working on a zombie, literary-genre, horror novel titled Bird Food.

I was born in Virginia, moved to Illinois as a teenager, and spent summers in Southern California. I attended school in Illinois and Saint Louis. I served in the military as an infantryman and an Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technician. During that time, I lived in (or worked) in California, Florida, Georgia, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Missouri, Washington D.C., etc. Very well traveled within the Continental United States. My bloodhound and I currently reside in Virginia. Some of our favorite things are: Shakespeare, Victorian Literature, gaming, dead things, witchy things, walks in the middle of the night, strange smells, long car rides, birds, weird diseases, and cyberpunk things…I’ll let you guess whose is which.
